At your fall district meetings, a scholar should be selected to represent your district as the Joanne Breckenridge Scholar from your district. The young lady selected will represent you at the annual Joanne Breckenridge Scholar Day at the Capitol March 1 in conjunction with the MoFRW Legislative Day. The scholar must be a high school junior or senior. Only one scholar per district may be chosen. You may select an alternate but only one girl will be honored as the Breckenridge Scholar.
Each club in your district will be asked to nominate a young lady for the honor by writing a short essay about their selection. At your district meeting you will select the girl to be honored. Some districts vote on their choice as a group and some use a committee. That is up to the district
president. The nine girls will then come together in Jefferson City. They will be treated to a day at the Capitol and see how the government works as well as touring our government buildings and meeting with their Senator and Representatives. All of their expenses will be covered for the day. Transportation to and from Jefferson City is the responsibility of the district and/or the recipient.
MoFRW Past President Joanne Breckenridge was dedicated to involving young women in government. She started this program 15 years ago as a way to introduce them to our state government. The MoFRW continues to honor her by holding Joanne Breckenridge Scholar Day.
Following the selection of your honoree, each District President needs to complete the registration form for the scholar and send it along with a photo to Tane’ Schwartzman, Breckenridge Scholar Chairperson. Please do not use a professional photographer’s photo unless you have a release form as they can not be reprinted because of copyright law. Each young ladies short essay and photo will appear in a booklet they will receive in Jefferson City.
Please mail your nomination form to Tane’ Schwartzman, 24554 Green Hills Road, Lebanon, Missouri 65536. If you have questions feel free to contact Tane’ at Cell# 417/718-4732; Home #417/532-3494 or any of the MoFRW board. Deadline for submission is December 1, 2010. Please be prompt with your submissions. A letter of congratulations and additional information will be sent to the recipients in early January.
